Themed Character Design: 1980s Japan

Here is our second character assignment for second semester. We had to choose a theme no matter which time period or country, and design 4 characters: the hero, the love interest, the villain, and the comic relief.

So my theme was the 1980s in Osaka, Japan.

Overall, I knew what I wanted to do for this assignment, but I actually struggled a lot during the process... Many parts could have been better, but I ran out of time way too much, so this is final... for now.
Hope I could have time to do a retouch on these drawings or even just develop a complete costume color palette for them later, then that would be great. =)

Egypt VS. Rome Themed Story

( I just noticed that I haven't updated for almost two months now.... So... I'm just gonna post some old stuff up...)

Here is the first storyboard assignment we did for 2nd year's second semester:

It was our first group project, and we had to create a story based on a song. Every person from the group had their own designs of the characters, then after discussion we finalized each of the characters.

Our group came up with this Roman Dog cultists trying to bribe Egyptian Cats to join their religious activities. However, what they presented was not attractive to the Egyptians and they kinda offended the cats. Therefore, the jackal guards attack the dogs, but one of them got away.

There are 13 verses in total and I was responsible for verse 11 as shown below.

First Airbrush Experience!!!

Our painting teacher Michael brought in his airbrush equipments around the end of last semester, and I thought I could use this earlier drawing as an experiment, but at the same time I was really worried that I would ruin it.

I tried to be as careful as I possibly can and took it really really slowly....

First I did the yellow base color.
Then added orange and red as a gradient starting from the symbol in the centre.

I was gonna stop there but I realized that the characters were too white on the page, so I asked if I could paint the characters as well with this brown-red-ish earthy color.

Wow I was amazed by the result myself! I somehow created a shadow illusion around the characters as if they are popping out on the page.

Really had a fun experience with this and I was proud and satisfied! =)
Hope you like it too.

Layout: 3 Shots

This was the last layout assignment from last semester.

We had to have 3 shots including establishing shot, medium shot, and close up.

I decided to do a wedding theme.

Since the other assignments were done digitally, I thought maybe this time I should go back to traditionally again.

Well, drawing on paper felt so much more comfortable than drawing on the computer for me, so I did the line works on paper and then scanned them to add tones digitally.

Character Sketchbook Project

Since the beginning of second year
our character teacher asked us to get a sketchbook for drawing characters
We have to fill it up before the end of this semester
And pick 30 best ones to hand them in
So here are my sketches
The colored ones were my first attempts of doing watercolor
I had so much fun and achieved what I always wanted to do with watercolor

Original Storyboard

Here is my color key
And the original storyboards are down below

The story is created based on the conflict "get rid of it"

It's about a farmer driving on his way home, and then he encounters a muddy skunk, but he recognizes as a cute squirrel / kitten (either one). He pets it, but the skunk sneezes and shakes off all the mud that covered it. The farmer laughs so hard that he didn't notice until later that it is actually a skunk. He gets mad and throws the skunk out of the truck. At the same time, the wheel steers and before he can get back in control, the truck smashes into a tree. Unfortunately, the fire burns down all the trees including his house. And the poor innocent skunk just sadly walks away.
